26 generous volunteers met at Nazos park to participate in our first ever Project Bee event.  As some of you know, February 28th, 2023, Bumblebee escaped and was last seen at Nazos Park in Glendale Heights.  She spent 4 days on the run.  After countless hours searching, on Friday, March 3rd, Team Bee brought Bumblebee home.

As we all sat in the exam room at Partners and Paws, we all were saddened by the condition of the forest and vowed to do a clean-up event in honor of Bee’s great escape and rescue.

Fast forward to this past Saturday.  DuPage Forest Division sent us the help of 2 wonderful Rangers and along with them came picker uppers, garbage bags, gloves and a big truck.  Little did we know that 2 hours in the forest we would collect so much.  We collected 41 garbage bags full of trash! The truck even had to be taken back to the Ranger Station to be emptied.

There were so many interesting finds.  Barb Beshears found an intact deer skull, teeth and all.  Jackson Beshears, who actually found her, also took us on a long field trip to the exact location that he found Bumblebee where she lay scared in cat tails.

Everyone that showed up was decked out in a Project Bee T-shirt and Bumblebee antennas. Afterwards we had a delicious lunch at Bee’s forever home and got to talk about what a wonderful day it was and for some, they got to meet the Queen herself.

It was an exhausting, emotional and very special day. We did it! We couldn’t have done it without the help of everyone that was able to come out and participate. We do plan on making Project Bee an annual event and hope you can join us next year.
